Mefford Soars to No. 2 in Program Records at VMI Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. - Senior Isaiah Mefford of the Washington and Lee University men's track and field team soared to No. 2 in the program's long jump record books on the first day of the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Winter Classic on Friday. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET 
  • Isaiah Mefford highlighted the meet for the Generals as he set a new personal best and the second best mark in program history in the long jump. Mefford was the top-DIII finisher, fifth overall, with a mark of 6.87m (22'-06.50"). 
  • Jack Foster finished in 11th place, third among DIII competition, in the long jump with a personal best mark of 5.90m (19'-04.25"). David Li finished fifth among DIII opponents, 15th overall, with a jump of 5.65m (18'-06.50") while Patrick Haynes finished in 17th place, 7th among DIII competition, with a mark of 5.39m (17'-08.25"). 
  • Adam Roy was the lone General in the weight throw, he posted the second best mark among DIII competitors, 11th overall, with a toss of 13.27m (43'-06.50"). 

PERSONAL / SEASON BESTS TOP-FINISHERS
  • Long Jump: Isaiah Mefford | 5th place, top-DIII finisher (6.87m; 22'-06.50") - #2 in program history
  • Long Jump: Jack Foster | 11th place, 3rd in DIII (5.90m; 19'-04.25")
  • Weight Throw: Adam Roy | 11th place, 2nd in DIII (13.27m; 43'-06.50")
  • Long Jump: David Li | 15th place, 5th in DII (5.65m; 18'-06.50")
  • Long Jump: Patrick Haynes | 17th place, 7th in DIII (5.39m; 17'-08.25")
