SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The 32nd-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team rallied in singles, but No. 14 Swarthmore claimed the match by a 6-3 score on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Garnet (2-0) picked up the first team point of the match with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, but W&L (2-1) senior
Josh Rassin and first-year
Heys Parker leveled the score with an 8-6 win over Andres Fente and Winston Zhang at No. 2. Swarthmore went into singles play with a 2-1 lead, however, after Max Lindstrom and Rushil Patel edged out senior
Connor Coleman and junior
James Kurani in a tiebreak, 8-7 (8-6), at No. 3.
Swarthmore took the first two singles points with straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 2, before W&L junior
Will Kistler made it a 4-2 match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Patel at No. 3.
The Generals looked to complete the comeback from down 4-1 as junior

Sanjheev Rao both went up a set at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, while Parker won his second set to force a third at No. 5. However, Zhang won the second set against Kurani, 6-2, before clinching the match with a 6-3 score in the third set.
Parker dropped his third set against LalithAditya Suresh, 6-1, for Swarthmore's sixth point. Rao and Rishi Verma went into a third-set, 10-point break for the final point where Rao emerged victorious, 10-6.

The Generals will travel to Newport News, Va., next Saturday where they will take on No. 39 Haverford at 2:30 p.m. at the James River Country Club.
