Mary Schleusner '26 Preseason All-American

Schleusner opens season as D3hoops.com Preseason First Team All-American

10/31/2024 1:00:00 PM

LEXINGTON, Va. – D3hoops.com released its 2024-25 Women's Basketball Preseason All-America teams on Thursday, and Washington and Lee junior Mary Schleusner was named to the first team.

Schleusner, a D3hoops.com and WBCA First Team All-American a season ago, made the D3hoops.com Preseason All-America squad ahead of her sophomore season with a fourth team citation. Schleusner is the only player in program history to be named a preseason All-American.

The 2023-24 D3hoops.com Region 6 Player of the Year turned in one of the finest seasons in program history as a sophomore, setting numerous program records including points per game (23.9), rebounds per game (17.2) and total blocks (105) in a season. Also the 2023-24 ODAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Schleusner's rebounding average, as well 27 double-doubles last season, both led Division III.

Schleusner not only turned in a strong season overall, but she stepped up her game in the biggest moments of the season. Through the team's three ODAC Tournament games and four NCAA Tournament contests, Schleusner averaged 29.3 points, 25.0 rebounds, 3.9 blocks and 2.9 steals per game to help the Generals win the ODAC Tournament title and make it to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round. Those games included a single-game scoring record (45) for the program, an NCAA Tournament-record 33 rebounds in the Round of 16 and the first 30-point, 30-rebound game in program history.

The Generals, who are ranked as the No. 7 team in Division III in the D3hoops.com preseason Top 25, open the season on Monday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m. with a home game against nearby rival Southern Virginia.
