SALEM, Va. – The Washington and Lee University field hockey team secured a 2-0 victory over Roanoke College in ODAC play on Wednesday afternoon at Kerr Stadium.
The Generals (10-6, 4-3 ODAC) capitalized on loose balls in front of the goal for both scores, with Julia McDonald earning her sixth shutout of the season by making five key saves. W&L controlled the pace, outshooting Roanoke (7-9, 2-5) 9-6 and generating six penalty corners to Roanoke's seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 7:35 – W&L – Betty Boatwright put the Generals on the board, netting an unassisted goal off a rebounded loose ball in front of the goal.
- 24:20 – W&L – Margaret Cover doubled the lead with another unassisted goal, driving home a loose ball after a pair of W&L shots were saved.
BY THE NUMBERS
- W&L outshot Roanoke 9-6, with a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
