Men’s Swimming Dismantles Mary Washington, 189-70

MANASSAS, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team won all 14 events en route to a 189-70 win over the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon at the Prince Williams Aquatic Center.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Blue and White dominated the meet, winning all 14 events to secure a 119 point victory. The Generals have won their ninth straight dual over the Eagles, moving to 29-7 in the all-time series.
  • Matt Fritz, Harrison Cerone, Zane Ross and Dalton Jobe teamed up in the 200 medley relay to kick off the meet. The squad set a new pool record with a time of 1:34.13, to finish in first place.
  • Lucas Chacon picked up his first solo win of the season in the 1000 freestyle, clocking in a time of 10:24.53. Fritz clocked in a time of 53.30 in the 100 backstroke to take home first place, securing his second win of the afternoon. 
  • Cerone posted two solo wins today, taking home first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.13 before clocking in a time of 2:14.28 in the 200 breaststroke. 
  • Dalton Jobe finished in first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.46 before clocking in the fastest time in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.92 to pick up his second win of the afternoon.
  • Baxter Smelzer had his hand in two wins this afternoon, posting a solo win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.26 before teaming up with Leighton Chapman, Charles Byars and Luke Nagel in the 200 freestyle relay. The relay squad set a pool record in the event, clocking in a time of 1:25.46. 
  • Reese Nelson picked up a solo win in the 200 butterfly, clocking in a time of 1:58.23 to secure nine team points for the Blue and White. Chapman clocked in the fastest time in the 100 freestyle, finishing with a time of 47.58.
  • Carter Whetstine picked up his first collegiate win in the 200 backstroke, clocking in a time of 1:58.81 to finish in first place. Nagel finished in first place in the 500 freestyle, finishing in a time of 4:57.45. Zane Ross capped off the afternoon with a win in the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 52.02 to finish in first place.
