Men’s Swimming Breezes by No. 22 Gettysburg, 184-78

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team kicked off the new year with a dominant 184-78 win over 22nd-ranked Gettysburg College on Saturday afternoon. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Blue and White won 13 of the 14 events to knock off the 22nd-ranked team in the country and their first win in 2024. 11 individual events were won by six Generals while both relay teams claimed the gold in their respective events. 
  • Leighton Chapman, Matt Fritz, Charles Byars and Dalton Jobe got the Generals off on the right foot as they cruised their way to gold in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:25.37. Harrison Cerone, Zane Ross, Fritz and Chapman notched the Generals' second relay victory of the afternoon as they turned in a time of 1:33.20 in the 200 medley relay.
  • Jobe led the individual events with three solo wins. The sophomore captured wins in the 200 free (1:42.76), 500 free (4:46.11) and the 200 IM (1:55.33). 
  • Cerone, Fritz and Chapman each won two individual events for the Blue and White. Cerone notched wins in the 100 (58.22) and 200 breaststroke (2:10.23) while Fritz earned wins in the 100 backstroke (52:38) and the 100 fly (50.55). Chapman recorded wins in the 50 (21.11) and 100 free (46.41) while Ross and Jackson Hall each earned one win.

  • Harrison Cerone - 100 Breaststroke (58.22); 200 Breaststroke (2:10.23)
  • Zane Ross - 200 Butterfly (1:56.96)
  • Leighton Chapman - 50 Freestyle (21.11); 100 Freestyle (46.41)
  • Jackson Hall - 200 Backstroke (1:58.52)
UP NEXT
  • The Blue and White return to their home pool on Saturday, Jan. 20 for a dual meet against Randolph-Macon College. The Generals and Yellow Jackets will square off at 1 p.m. inside the W&L Natatorium.
