Women’s Volleyball Cruises Past Hollins, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Va. - Resuming Old Dominion Athletic Conference play after a one game break, the Washington and Lee University women's volleyball team defeated Hollins University in straight sets to notch their tenth win of the season on Tuesday night inside Holekamp Gym. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Set One | 25-9 W&L
  • Diane Pierre-Louis kicked off the match with a bang as she finished off an Allie Buchholz assist to jumpstart a seven point swing for the Generals. 
  • After conceding one point, W&L used kills from Sydney Heifner and Alyssah McGuire to propel them to a 13-1 lead. 
  • Caroline Natwick capped off the first frame by finishing a McKenna Cook assist to give the Generals a 25-9 win. 
  • Heifner led all players with four kills on seven attempts for a .571 hitting percentage. Natwick and McGuire each had two kills in the first set. 
  • Buchholz dished out six assists while Avery Myers and Cook each recorded one. 

Set Two | 25-14 W&L
  • After some back and forth action early in the second set, the Generals went on a four point run which featured a Stephanie Lynch kill and a Pierre-Louis service ace to give W&L a 8-3 lead. 
  • Back-to-back kills from McGuire gave the Generals a 20-11 lead before Grace Mitchener finished off a Turi Trainor assist to put W&L two points away from taking the second set. 
  • Two attack errors by Hollins gave the Blue and White a 25-14 win in the second frame. 
  • McGuire led the Generals with three kills on five attempts for a .600 hitting percentage while Lillie Holcomb and Lynch each netted two. 
  • Buchholz and Katie Stone dished out three assists each while Jaelyn Werley of Hollins dished out a set-high nine assists. 
  • Cook led all players with eight digs while Holcomb dug out five attacks. 

Set Three | 25-18 W&L
  • The third set started in favor of the Generals as Trainor dished out an assist to K. Stone before Holcomb recorded a service ace to put W&L up 4-0. 
  • Hollins used a five point swing to tie the game at six after two service aces from Sophia Maurer. 
  • Pierre-Louis finished off a Trainor assist before K. Stone recorded two kills off Penelope Quiles assists to give the Generals a 18-9 lead. 
  • After a six point run from Hollins, W&L closed out the match with a Pierre-Louis service ace and an attack error by Hollins. 
  • K. Stone led the Generals with four kills on nine attempts for a .333 hitting percentage while Holcomb, Lexie Stone, Pierre-Louis, Mitchener, and Trainor each recorded one kill in the final set. 
  • Sophia Maurer led Hollins with three kills on 13 attempts. 
  • Trainor and Jaelyn Werley of Hollins each dished out a set-high four assists. Trainor also posted a set-high seven digs. 


W&L GAME NOTES
  • The Blue and White move to 10-1 on the season while staying perfect in the ODAC play with a 2-0 record. 
  • The Generals had 29 kills on 92 attempts for a .207 hitting percentage.
  • W&L lead all team categories including service aces (8), blocks (5) and digs (58)

HOLLINS GAME NOTES
  • Hollins falls to 1-10 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. 
  • They recorded 19 kills in the match. 

TOP PERFORMERS
  • McGuire led the Generals with five kills on 11 attempts for a .273 hitting percentage in two sets of action. K. Stone recorded a career-high four kills in three sets of action. 
  • Sophia Maurer led all players with nine kills on 23 attempts for a .217 hitting percentage. 
  • Buchholz dished out a team-high nine assists while Trainor dished out a career-high five assists in two sets of action. 
  • Jaelyn Werley dished out a match-high 17 assists in three sets while also tallying a block. 
  • Natwick and Lynch each stuffed two Hollins attacks in their two sets of action. 
  • Cook led all players with 15 digs in two sets of action while Holcomb dug out ten attacks. 
  • Carrie Nelson of Hollins led the team with ten digs while Werley and Selena Wolfe each dug out eight W&L attacks.
