Field Hockey Wins at Dickinson, 2-0

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Washington and Lee University field hockey team bounced back from a scoreless first half at Dickinson College to earn a 2-0 win on Saturday afternoon.

W&L (2-3) used goals in both the third and fourth quarter to break the six-quarter-scoreless skid and defeated the Red Devils (2-3) in a non-conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • W&L scored its first goal in the third quarter. The Generals were awarded a penalty corner and the set play featured a Zoe Dolfis dish to the center of the scoring circle. From there, Maddy Duggleby collected the pass and sent a shot into the right corner of the cage for a goal.
  • Kate Ruffin scored an insurance goal at the 52:29 mark. Sydney Baggett sent a pass through three defenders and Ruffin just needed to beat the keeper for the second goal of the day.
  • Stout defense stood tall all game; W&L did not all a shot on target.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Red Devils outshot W&L 8-7 but recorded zero shots on goal.
  • Five of W&L's shots were on target.
  • The two teams split 12 penalty corners.
  • Dickson made three stops.
  • Abby Long and Julia McDonald split time in the goal for W&L, neither keeper faced a shot on goal.
