LEXINGTON, Va. – The 25th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team powered past Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, 5-0, in the ODAC Semifinals.
The Generals (16-5) cruised to a 3-0 lead through doubles play, dropping no more than three games at any position. No. 1 doubles, with sophomore
Evan Erb (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) and senior
Evan Brady (Glen Head, N.Y. / Chaminade), and No. 3 doubles, featuring junior
Connor Coleman (Birmingham, Ala. / Briarwood Christian) and sophomore
James Kurani (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence Day), both logged 8-2 scores. Sophomores
Will Kistler (Hilton Head, S.C. / Laurel Springs School) and
Eli Hirshberg (Alpharetta, Ga. / Johns Creek) closed things out at No. 2, 8-3.
Kurani tallied the fourth team point with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6, before Brady ended the match at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Kistler was the next closest to completion, as he led Hubert Parawa, 7-5, 4-2 at No. 2.
The Marlins (12-7) battled throughout singles play, with Felix Bevc (1) and Jonas Juetz (5) pushing Erb and Coleman, respectively, to three sets.
The Generals advance to Sunday's 1:00 pm championship match where they will take on Averett on the home courts.
