Baseball Splits with Roanoke, Takes Game Two, 6-3

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee baseball team bounced back from a game-one 11-5 loss with a 6-3 victory in game two of the Saturday doubleheader.
The Generals (13-10, 7-6 ODAC) led off game two with a pair of runs in the first to give W&L the lead. The Generals maintained their lead throughout the game and fended off the Maroons (15-9, 8-2) in the eighth inning with the bases loaded to secure the win.

First-year right fielder Paul Ramseur (
Atlanta, Ga./Pace) led game two with a single to give the Generals their first base runner. A one-out RBI triple by junior second baseman Jacob Jackson (Norfolk, Va./Maury) put the Blue and White on top and junior shortstop Zach Senders (Potomac, Md./Bullis School) scored the final run in the frame with an infield single to bring Jackson home and tallied three runs in the first frame.
The Maroons failed to put a run on the board until the fifth inning, which followed a two-run fourth inning by W&L. Sophomore designated hitter Campbell Charneco (Clifton, Va./Centreville) shot a double down the right field line scoring junior first baseman Drew Larsen (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run). After the Generals worked the bases on a pair of walks, Ramseur singled, and scored Charneco.
W&L tallied their final two runs in the fifth and seventh, including Jackson's solo shot to left field. The last RC run came following a bases-loaded no-out rally. Sophomore pitcher Evan Blair (Vienna, Va./James Madison) held Roanoke down allowing just one run to score off of a sacrifice fly, then striking out two batters to escape the jam. Blair followed the top of the ninth with a 1-2-3 with three straight strikeouts to win the nightcap.
In game one, the Generals allowed three runs to score in the top of the first but they bounced back immediately with three of their own and were unable to come within an arm's reach of the Maroons.
Leading the way for W&L in the doubleheader were Ramseur, Jackson, and Charneco all ending their Saturday night with three hits. Ramseur added an RBI, two walks, and scored twice. Jackson had a two-homer game including five runs batted in and scored three times. Charneco knocked in two runs of his own and crossed home twice.
Roanoke recorded 22 hits on the day, 17 of which came in game one. The top performers for the Maroons were designated hitter Brody Langlotz and Jacob Bonzon. Langlotz went 5-for-9 with three runs batted in, while Bonzon put up two hits in both games and added two RBI in game one.
Sophomore pitcher John Benner (McLean, Va./St. Albans) (5-2) earned the game-two win after a seven-inning performance. Benner allowed just two runs in his outing and punched out six in the process. The Maroons' Caleb Lingenfel (5-2) received the loss after recording just one out and giving up two runs on three hits. Evan Blair (S, 2) recorded the save after pitching the final two frames without giving up a hit and fanning five Maroons.
Sophomore Thomas Haller (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) (1-4) was the pitcher of record for the game-one loss, he allowed six runs on nine hits in 2.2 innings of play. Roanoke's Will Turner (4-1) earned the game-one win after 5.2 innings of work allowing five runs on seven hits. Aiden Kuhle (S, 3) recorded the save after tossing the final 3.1 frames.

The Generals are back in action on Wednesday against No. 3 Shenandoah, first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
