LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team topped the eight-team field at the Lynchburg Invitational on Saturday, with nine Top 3 individual finishes.
The Generals scored 38 points to top Virginia Tech's 36-point output. To date, W&L has accumulated 236 points in the regional rankings, trailing Hollins (269) and Lynchburg (251) in the Top 3.
Senior
Zoe Cass (Old Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich) and junior
Clare O'Brien (Dallastown, Pa. / Dallastown Area) highlighted the day with one win each. Cass claimed her win in the open on the flat, while O'Brien won in the intermediate over fences. Cass also added a third-place effort in the open over fences, one spot behind senior
Jillian Rosenwasser (New York, N.Y. / Convent of the Sacred Heart).
Three more runner-up performances came in from first-years
Lydia Bowersox (Middleburg, Pa. / Midd-West),
Irene Tsengas (Goochland, Va. / Goochland) and
Abby McGee (Alabaster, Ala. / Thompson) in the limit flat, pre-novice and intro, respectively. Rounding out the Top 3 finishers were sophomores
Allison Hines (Powhatan, Va. / J.R. Tucker) and
Hanna Johnson (Marietta, Ga. / The Walker School). Hines was third in the intermediate flat and Johnson matched that finish in the limit over fences.
Senior
Elisabeth Matthews (Dallas, Texas / Ursuline Academy of Dallas) capped the field of W&L placings with a fifth-place effort in the novice flat.
The Generals will be back in action next weekend when they host the Spring Welcome/Collegiate Cup on March 3.
