Men’s Swimming Dismantles Southern Virginia, 170-83

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team posted a dominating 170-83 win over Southern Virginia University on Friday evening. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Generals won 11 of the 14 events to pick up their third win of the season. Six different swimmers helped the Generals win nine individual events while both relay teams notched wins. 
  • The Blue and White got off on the right foot as Charles Byars, Harrison Cerone, Matt Fritz and Baxter Smelzer claimed gold in the 200 medley realy with a time of 1:35.19. Fritz and Smelzer teamed up with Leighton Chapman and Dalton Jobe in the 200 freestyle, the relay squad posted a 1:25.39 to finish in first. 
  • Luke Nagel, Caleb Yau, and Dalton Jobe each recorded two individual wins for the Generals. Nagel, a junior from Wayne, Pa., posted a 1:44.58 time in the 200 free before finishing in first in the 500 free with a time of 4:50.76.
  • Yau, a sophomore from Naperville, Ill., swept the breaststroke events, taking home the crown in the 100 yard (1:01.93) and the 200 yard (2:16.46). Jobe posted an ODAC-best 1:57.03 in the 200 backstroke before finishing in first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.09. 
  • Thomas Denton claimed gold in the 100 fly, posting a 52.32 while Reese Nelson finished in first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:58.40. Byars claimed the 100 backstroke crown with a 53.85 time.

  • Reese Nelson - 200 Butterfly (1:58.40)
  • Dalton Jobe - 200 Backstroke (1:57.03); 200 IM (1:59.09)
  • Thomas Denton - 100 Butterfly (52.32)
UP NEXT
  • The Generals take their first road trip of the season as they travel to Lancaster, Pa. for the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. The first day of action will kick off at 10 a.m on Friday, Nov. 17 and the invitational will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 19.
