LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team used 10 event wins to secure a 170-92 win over Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon.
Highlights from the meet:
-The Generals' 10 wins came from a variety of swimmers. They won both relays and saw six individuals post a combined eight wins as well.
-First-year
Dalton Jobe (Henrico, Va. / Collegiate School) led the way with wins in all three of his events swam. He was first to touch in the 200 free (1:42.29), 500 free (4:43.73) and 200 IM (1:54.37). The time of 1:54.37 in the 200 IM marked a new season-best for the first-year.
-First-years
Harrison Cerone (Darnestown, Md. / Georgetown Preparatory School) and
Thomas Denton (Essex, Vt. / Essex) won one individual race each. They joined sophomores
Matt Fritz (Reston, Va. / South Lakes) and
Baxter Smelzer (Greensboro, N.C. / Page) for a win on the 200 medley relay (1:34.51) as well. Cerone's victory came in the 100 breast (58.48), while Denton's came in the 100 fly (51.73).
-Junior
Malachi Eberly (Reading, Pa. / Wilson) and first-year
Charles Byars (Oxford, Miss. / Oxford) matched Cerone and Denton with one individual win and a relay win apiece. Eberly won the 50 free (21.74), Byars was first in the 100 free (47.43), and they teamed up with sophomore
Jackson Flower (Goldsboro, N.C. / Wayne Country Day) and senior
Dawson Kramer (Taylors, S.C. / Eastside) on the 200 medley relay (1:34.51).
-Sophomore
Reese Nelson (Fort Worth, Texas / Fort Worth Country Day) capped the Blue and White winners, as he touched first in the 200 fly (1:56.85).
