No. 15 Field Hockey Grounds the Owls, 7-0

LEXINGTON, Va. - The No. 15 Washington and Lee University field hockey squad earned its sixth-straight victory, a 7-0 win over Kenyon College, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

In the fifth shutout of the season for the Generals (6-1), the home team needed just one quarter to lock up the Owls (4-3) and took a commanding 3-0 lead after the initial 15 minutes.

Freddie Tobeason (New York, N.Y./ Groton), Maddy Duggleby (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) and Alexis Parks (Arlington, Va. / Washington-Lee) all tallied the first quarter goals with Peyton Tysinger  (Norfolk, Va./ Norfolk Academy) assisting on Duggleby's first goal of the day.

The Owls, who switched out keepers after the third score, did not concede a point in the second quarter and only allowed the Blue and White to get shots off three times including two big saves from Megan Lydon, who relieved starting keeper Payton Doan.

Kailey Fitzgerald (Chevy Chase, Md./ Georgetown Visitation) scored the initial goal out of the break with a penalty stroke. Duggleby then notched her second score, a redirected Tess Muneses (Howard County, Md./ Glenwood) shot, to give W&L a 4-0 advantage with 17 minutes of action left.

In the last stanza, Ally Hoffman (West Chester, Pa. Unionville) and Kate Ruffin (Virginia Beach, Va. / Norfolk Academy) teamed up for a score off a penalty corner. The final opportunity of the afternoon was recorded by Allison Pitts (Reistertown, Md. / McDonogh) from an Amanda Tan (Richmond, Va. Collegiate) shot and redirected the ball into the back of the net.

The Generals dominated the playing surface all game with a 36-3 advantage in shots, 22 of those were on target. Kenyon's keepers were put under constant pressure but made 15 stops in the contest. WLU also benefited from a 10-0 slide in the awarded penalty corners.

Abby Long (Kansas City, Mo. / Pembroke Hill) and Julia McDonald (Guilford, Conn. / Guilford) split the time in the cage again with Long seeing all of the KC shots in the third quarter and came up with two saves to complete the shutout.

The Generals return to the home turf tomorrow, Sunday afternoon, in a 1 p.m. contest against the University of Mary Washington.
