LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Washington and Lee field hockey team opened the weekend with a 7-0 non-conference win over Transylvania University on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (2-1) posted their second straight shutout in game one of a Kentucky trip over the Pioneers (2-1).
Senior forward and team co-captain
Freddie Tobeason (New York, N.Y. / Groton) rattled off three straight goals to start the game off and recorded her second collegiate hat trick. Her first two goals were assisted by classmates
Tess Muneses (Howard County, Md./ Glenwood) and
Kailey Fitzgerald (Chevy Chase, Md./ Georgetown Visitation) set up the third in the second quarter.
Ally Hoffman found
Alexis Parks (Arlington, Va./ Washington-Lee) for goal number four right before the break.
Sophomore forward
Kate Ruffin (Virginia Beach, Va./ Norfolk Academy) notched two unassisted goals in the third quarter.
Sarah Allen (Glen Allen, Va./ Deep Run) added her own to finish off the scoring for the Blue and White.
The Generals will continue their weekend tour of the Bluegrass State with an 11 a.m. non-conference contest at Centre. The game was originally scheduled for noon but impending weather pushed the start ahead by an hour.
