LEXINGTON, Va. – The fifth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team scored 13 first-quarter goals and never looked back in claiming a 24-2 victory over Guilford on Saturday afternoon at Appenzeller Field.
W&L (11-2, 5-0) opened the scoring just 31 seconds into the contest when senior midfielder

Katherine Faria (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. / Cold Spring Harbor) made it 2-0 with her first of two goals in the opening quarter and the Blue & White was off and running. Sophomore midfielder
Ginny Taylor (Madison, N.J. / Madison) posted two goals as well during the opening 15 minutes that saw W&L hold a 21-0 advantage on shots.
The Generals tacked on three more goals at the start of the second quarter to push out to a 16-0 lead, before the Quakers (4-9, 1-4) got on the board with a free-position goal by first-year attacker Sydne Swayer with 6:58 left in the first half. W&L added three more goals before the break, including two by sophomore attacker
Julia Thomson (Larchmont, N.Y. / Hackley School), to carry a 19-1 lead into the intermission.
Washington and Lee finished the game with advantages of 38-6 in shots, 16-7 in ground balls and 21-8 in draw controls.
Taylor tied her career high with four goals, while sophomore attacker
Alex Petras (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) tied her career high with five points on three goals and two assists. Thomson compiled three goals and one assist, and Faria finished with two goals and one assist.

Eugenie Rovegno (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) each registered a team-best four draw controls and three goalkeepers all played in the contest led by sophomore
Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa. / Mercersburg Academy), who earned the win after playing the initial 21:27 without facing a shot.
Sawyer scored both goals to lead the Quakers' offense. Sophomore Zenna Carson played the entire contest in goal and registered six saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Shenandoah for its final regular-season home game of the season. Opening draw is slated for 5:00 pm.
