HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its 2021-22 College Division All-State Women's Indoor Track and Field teams on Friday, and sophomore
Katelyn Gamble (Houston, Texas/The Kinkaid School) highlighted W&L's selections by earning the Track Rookie of the Year award.
Gamble added a first team citation in the sprints category, and she was joined on the first team by senior
Avery Schiffman (New Vernon, N.J./The Pingry School), who was selected in the mid-distance category. Senior
Abbey Pinkerton (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) and first-year
Ashley D'Ambrosia (Henrico, Va./Collegiate School) garnered accolades on the second team, with Pinkerton in the mid-distance section and D'Ambrosia in the jumps.
Also the 2021-22 ODAC Indoor Track Rookie of the Year and the USTFCCCA Regional Track Athlete of the Year, Gamble's indoor season was highlighted by a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championship. Her finish came in a time of 7.67, while her top time of the season of 7.60 came in the preliminary race. Gamble's 7.60 was not only a personal best, but also a new program record, besting her own previous record of 7.63. She also placed second in the 200m at the ODAC meet in a school-record time of 25.82.
Schiffman won the mile at the conference meet to earn her first team honor, as she posted a season-best time of 5:13.53, which is also the fifth-fastest time in program history. Schiffman also earned USTFCCCA All-Region recognition for her effort in the mile.
Pinkerton raced to a runner-up finish in the 800m at the conference meet and earned Second Team All-ODAC honors. Pinkerton completed the race in a season- and personal-best time of 2:22.22.
D'Ambrosia rounds out the Generals on the All-State teams, as she won the pole vault at the ODAC Indoor Championship with a vault of 3.38m (11'1.00"). That mark was not only a personal best and season high, but it was also good for the fourth-highest in program history.
