SALEM, Va. – The Washington and Lee baseball was swept in a road doubleheader at Roanoke on Saturday, falling by scores of 23-11 and 6-3.
W&L (9-12, 4-7 ODAC) trailed, 6-0, heading into the ninth of game two before sophomore second baseman
Zach Senders (Potomac, Md. / Bullis School) started a rally with a lead-off walk. After a one-out double from junior left fielder
John Raymond (Frenchtown, N.J. / Delaware Valley Regional) put runners on second and third, senior
Luke Czepiel (Devon, Pa. / Conestoga) grounded out to bring Senders home.

Luke Erdmann (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) then singled in Raymond, and Erdmann later scored on a single by senior first baseman
Brian Wickman (Whitehouse Station, N.J. / Hunterdon Central Regional).
With the tying run up at bat, Roanoke (12-9, 4-3 ODAC) senior Austin Bansek forced a ground out to end the game and log his second save of the season.
Senior designated hitter Hunter Andrews was responsible for both Roanoke runs in the second inning when he singled with no outs and later scored on a wild pitch. The Maroons later added four runs in the sixth inning on two hits and an error, including a two-run triple from senior center fielder Will Smith, which gave Roanoke a 6-0 lead.
Roanoke scored a majority of its runs in the opener in the fifth (seven runs) and seventh (eight runs) innings. In the fifth, junior second baseman Conner Butler hit a two-run home run to give the Maroons a 6-2 lead, followed by a two-run triple from junior left fielder Jacob Bonzon. Junior Troy Ferrell followed Bonzon's triple with a pinch-hit, two-run home run, as Roanoke stretched its lead to 10-2.
In the seventh, Smith drove in a run on an infield single to short, before two runs later scored on an error. Smith came up again later in the inning and legged out a three-run triple, which gave Roanoke a 22-5 advantage.

Ethan Zulueta (Matthews, N.C. / Weddington) hit a two-run triple, sophomore center fielder
Mason Satterfield (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) singled in Zulueta and Raymond hit a two-run home run to center.
Raymond went 2-for-4 in both games, finishing the opener with three RBI. Zulueta went 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBI in game one, while Erdmann and first-year catcher
Campbell Charneco (Clifton, Va. / Centreville) both notched three hits in game two. Senior designated hitter
Chapin Bassi (Concord, N.H. / St. Paul's School) hit a solo home run in game one, his second this season and fifth of his career.
First-year
Jack Cope (Chevy Chase, Md. / Landon School) (1-4) and sophomore
Thomas Haller (Round Hill, Va. / Woodgrove) (2-3) were the pitchers of record for the Generals. Cope allowed six earned on eight hits in 4.1 in game one, while Haller surrendered two earned runs across six innings in game two, with six strikeouts.
Senior catcher PK Cocolis hit two of Roanoke's five home runs in game one, finishing the contest 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs. Smith tallied four hits and six RBI between the two games and Butler, Bonzon and junior first baseman Owen Lawn each finished game one with two hits and four RBI.
Junior Will Turner (2-1) was the winning pitcher in game one after he allowed three earned runs in seven innings with no walks and three strikeouts. Junior Aiden Kuhle (1-1) earned the win in game two with three scoreless innings of relief with three hits allowed.
The Generals will begin a run of five straight home games on Tuesday when they host Eastern Mennonite at 6:00 pm.
