FERRUM, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's basketball team used a pair of runs in the first half to earn an 81-69 victory at Ferrum on Wednesday.
The Panthers (5-17, 0-13 ODAC) jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the game's first four minutes, but the Generals (10-9, 8-5 ODAC) responded with a 20-5 spurt to assume a 25-14 advantage with 9:06 remaining in the half.
Ferrum trimmed the margin to 29-22 with 7:08 on the clock, but then a dunk by junior guard
Richie Manigault (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) ignited a 15-2 onslaught for the Blue and White. Following Manigault's dunk, senior forward
Gus Wise (Winchester, Va./John Handley) split a pair of free throws. Sophomore guard
Drew Harrell (Collingswood, N.J./Paul VI) then drained a triple and junior guard
Sam Wise (Winchester, Va./John Handley) dropped in a layup.
The Panthers made a layup to momentarily stymie the run, but a free throw by sophomore forward
Jack d'Entremont (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor), a three-pointer by Harrell and a triple by d'Entremont gave the Generals a 44-24 lead with 2:41 left in the half.
Ferrum cut two points off its deficit by halftime (47-29), but the Blue and White held a double-digit lead for the entirety of the second on its way to the 12-point victory.
The Generals shot 40.0 percent (12-of-30) from beyond the arc, while holding Ferrum to just 26.7 percent (8-of-30) from long range. W&L shot 25-of-55 (45.5 percent) from the floor and the Panthers made just 35.2 percent (25-of-71) from the field.
With 23 points on 8-of-12 from the floor, d'Entremont led the team in scoring to go with five rebounds. Sophomore forward

Gus Wise and Harrell each scored 11.
