W&L Men's Basketball Falters at Lynchburg, 82-75

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Lynchburg went on a 17-10 run over the final six minutes to defeat the Washington and Lee men's basketball team, 82-75, on Saturday at Turner Gym.
 
Sophomore forward Robert DiSibio (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) split a pair of free throws with 5:26 left in the second half to give the Generals (10-10, 8-6 ODAC) a 66-65 advantage. The Hornets (14-9, 8-6 ODAC) scored the next five points to assume a 70-66 edge, but a DiSibio triple trimmed the deficit to one, 70-69, with 4:23 remaining in the contest.
 
Junior guard Sam Wise (Winchester, Va./John Handley) tied the game (70-70) with 2:27 on the clock by making one of two from the foul line, but Lynchburg tallied the next five points to take a 75-70 advantage with 1:30 left in the game.
 
On the Blue and White's next offensive possession, the team once again split a pair from the stripe, and graduate student guard Israel Lockamy dropped in a layup on the other end to extend the margin to six (77-71) with 31 ticks on the clock. W&L played the foul game, but the Hornets made 5-of-7 from the line in the final 30 seconds to hold on for the seven-point win.
 
DiSibio totaled a game-high 26 points on 9-of-18 from the floor. He also added eight rebounds. Sam Wise and senior forward Gus Wise (Winchester, Va./John Handley) each finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
 
Lockamy paced the Hornets with 24 points on 8-of-13 from the field. Graduate student guard Tharon Suggs added 19 points and seven rebounds.
 
The difference in the contest came at the free throw line where the Generals made 10-of-18 (55.6 percent), while Lynchburg sunk 18-of-22 (81.8 percent). W&L dominated the glass, 42-27, including a 19-9 edge on the offensive glass.
 
The Blue and White led in second-chance points, 27-11, but also had 16 turnovers that led to 17 points for the Hornets. W&L only scored one point off Lynchburg's seven turnovers.
 
The Generals return to the court on Tuesday when they host Eastern Mennonite at 7:00 pm.
