LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's basketball team had five players score in double figures in closing out the regular season with an 88-61 victory at Randolph on Saturday.
The Generals (12-10, 10-6 ODAC) held a 10-point lead, 41-31, at intermission and then junior guard
Richie Manigault (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) opened the second with six straight points to balloon the margin to 47-31 with 17:48 left in the contest.
The advantage was 17 (60-43) following a triple by WildCats' (6-18, 3-13 ODAC) sophomore guard Jordan Phillips-McLoyd with 9:27 remaining in the game. W&L put the game away for good over the next two minutes, ripping off 10 straight points with senior forward
Gus Wise (Winchester, Va./John Handley) capping off the run with a three pointer.
The lead never dropped below 20 points the rest of the way, as the Blue and White cruised to victory.
Junior guard
Sam Wise (Winchester, Va./John Handley) came close to a triple double, totaling a team-best 15 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in just 22 minutes. Senior guard
Mark Lamendola (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) added 14 points and six rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Robert DiSibio (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) and
Gus Wise each had 13 points, and sophomore forward
Jack d'Entremont (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) finished with 12 points.
The Generals held the WildCats to 36.8 percent (25-of-68) from the floor and 23.5 percent (8-of-34) from three-point range. W&L shot 45.6 percent (31-of-68) from the field and 40.6 percent (13-of-32) from beyond the arc.
Senior wing CJ Loving was the only Randolph player in double figures, finishing with 12 points. Phillips-McLoyd notched nine points and five rebounds.
The Generals finish the regular season fourth in the ODAC standing and will take on fifth-seeded Roanoke in the tournament quarterfinals on Thursday at 3:00 pm at the Salem Civic Center. Official pairings for the tournament will be released by the ODAC later this weekend.
