LEXINGTON, Va. — Senior Joe O'Connor (Henrico, Va./Douglas Freeman) broke his own school record and the ODAC record in the pole vault to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team on day two of the VMI Winter Classic on Saturday.  

Highlights From the Meet

• O'Connor claimed the top spot in the event, registering a height of 5.00m (16'4.75"). He cleared the bar on all four of his attempts on Saturday en route to breaking his previous indoor record of 4.84m (15'10.50"), which he set on December 3, 2021. His new personal best of 5.00m is tied for the third-best in Division III this season. The previous conference record was 4.90m (16'1.25") set by James Bell of Lynchburg in 2009. 
• First-year Luke Avigliano (Madison, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) placed fourth in the 500m with a time of 1:06.94, and sophomore Zach Moore (Advance, N.C./Forsyth Country Day School) was one spot behind him in fifth (1:07.00).
• Avigliano and Moore were also on the 4x400m relay that finished 10th overall in 3:25.66. The other two members of the foursome were junior Doug Dracon (Matthews, N.C./Weddington) and first-year George Marable (Aransas Pass, Texas/Rockport-Fulton).
