PITTSBURGH – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team was defeated by 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon by a 192-70 margin on the road on Saturday.
Highlights from the meet:
-The Generals came away with one win on the day, but also had an additional 10 top-three finishes. All top-three efforts came in individual races and were produced by six different swimmers.
-Leading the way was first-year
Dalton Jobe (Henrico, Va. / Collegiate School), who secured a win in the 200 free (1:42.56), as well as a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 free (46.92) and 200 IM (1:56.80).
-Sophomores
Luke Nagel (Wayne, Pa. / Conestoga) and
Matt Fritz (Reston, Va. / South Lakes) had one second- and third-place performance each. Nagel was second in the 1000 free (10:07.69) and third in the 500 free (4:55.63), and Fritz was the runner-up in the 100 back (53.91) and third in the 200 back (2:00.67).
-Senior
Todd Echols (Winston Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) rounded out the W&L swimmers with multiple top-three showings, as he placed third in both the 100 (59.75) and 200 breast (2:14.01).
