Field Hockey Stings Randolph-Macon 4-2 on the Road

ASHLAND, Va. - The No. 17 Washington and Lee University field hockey team doubled up on Randolph-Macon College 4-2 in a conference matchup on Saturday evening.

The Generals (12-2, 5-1 ODAC) sandwiched four goals, one in the third and three in the final quarter,  between the Yellow Jackets' (6-10, 3-4) game opening and closing tallies on the road.

Macon scored the only goal in the opening stanza, an Alaina McCoy feed found Raegan Williams just four and a half minutes into the contest. R-MC led for all but the inital four minutes of the first half.

Coming out of the halftime break, W&L evened up the score with an unassisted Freddie Tobeason (New York, N.Y./ Groton) goal. Tobeason collected a deflected Tess Muneses (Howard County, Md./ Glenwood) shot on a penalty corner opportunity and sent the ball past the goal line for her first of two tallies on Saturday evening.

Following a broken penalty corner set play, Muneses tallied a goal of her own to give W&L a 2-1 advantage two minutes into the final stanza.

Classmate Alexis Parks (Arlington, Va. / Washington-Lee) scored an insurance goal, 3-1, for the Generals off a Kailey Fitzgerald (Chevy Chase, Md. / Georgetown Visitation) feed in the 54th minute.

A minute later, Kate Ruffin  (Virginia Beach, Va. / Norfolk Academy) inserted on a corner and Tobeason tallied her second goal in as many shots to give WLU the three goal advantage

Summer Kujawa found Ann Scheir for the Yellow Jackets final goal of the game, scoring on one of the three penalty corners awarded to R-MC in the last four minutes of game time.

W&L was award twice as many corners as R-MC 10-5 and outshot the hosts 13-4. Muneses took a game-high seven shots, five of which were on target. The Generals kept Randolph-Macon's keeper, Kelsey Seiler, on her toes all day and made five stops in her efforts.

The Blue and White will host the Shenandoah University Hornets in a battle for ODAC Tournament seeding on the W&L Turf Field on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
