LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's track and field team recorded seven personal bests on day one of the VMI Winter Relays on Friday, competing against Division I, II and III schools.
Highlights From the Meet
- In the prelims of the 60m hurdles, senior Joe O'Connor (Henrico, Va./Douglas Freeman) placed sixth with a time of 8.63 to qualify for the finals on Saturday.
- The Generals had three athletes set new personal bests in the weight throw. Sophomore Adam Roy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) recorded a new best at 12.49m (40'11.00"), junior Jorge Soto-Ventura (Calhoun, Ga./Calhoun) notched a career-best throw of 12.15m (39'10.00") and first-year Evan Novak (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence) registered a personal best at 11.69m (38'4.00").
- The Blue and White also had three runners notch personal bests in the 5,000m. First-year Henry Haden (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) crossed the finish line in 16:09.07, first-year Row Sterne (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal School) recorded a time of 16:14.43 and junior Max Thomas (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) finished in 16:14.99.
- Junior Connor Verrett (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) placed eighth in the 1,000m with a time of 2:38.52.
