Generals Handle William Peace, 3-1, for Second Time in Four Days

DANVILLE, Va. — Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall), senior outside hitter Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) and senior right side Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) combined for 41 kills to lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over William Peace on Saturday at the Cougar Classic hosted by Averett. It marked the team's second win over William Peace in a span of four days.
 
Heifner had a team-high 17 kills and 12 digs, while Sokolow registered 14 kills and a career-high 22 digs. Allsteadt had 10 kills on a .321 hitting percentage, six digs and two blocks.
 
The Generals (4-1) took the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-15, but the Pacers (3-2) answered with a 25-21 victory in the third. The two squads were tied, 5-5, in the fourth, but then a 13-2 run pushed W&L in front, 18-7. William Peace scored just two more points the rest of the way, as the Blue and White claimed the set, 25-9, to secure the match.
 
Senior middle blocker Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) tallied eight kills on just 12 swings for a .667 hitting percentage. She also had a team-high seven blocks. Junior setter Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had a career-best 49 assists and 11 digs. Junior defensive specialist Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) notched 16 digs.
 
Following the conclusion of the classic, Heifner and Allsteadt were named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
Junior right side Shelby Cooper led the Pacers with 19 kills on a .306 hitting percentage. She also had 11 digs. Junior setter Logan Moore totaled 38 assists and 15 digs, while first-year libero Vivian Camplin registered 19.
 
The Generals return to action on Friday, September 10, when they host the W&L Invitational. The Blue and White plays Marietta at 4:30 pm and Southern Virginia at 7:00 pm.
