LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team hit a season-best .473 to defeat Marietta on Friday, 3-0, at Holekamp Gym as part of the W&L Invitational.
The Generals (5-1) recorded 47 kills on 89 attempts with just 10 errors to reach their hitting percentage. The Pioneers (2-4) hit just .144 with 24 kills on 90 swings with 11 errors. The large gap in hitting percentage led to a quick victory for the Blue and White, 25-15, 25-13, 25-18.
Senior outside hitter
Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) led the team with 13 kills on a .417 hitting percentage. She also had eight digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) contributed 10 kills on a .588 hitting percentage.
Junior defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) totaled 20 digs, five assists and two aces. Junior setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) notched 34 assists and eight digs.
Senior right side
Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) registered seven kills on a .467 hitting percentage, while junior outside hitter
Maggie McSwain (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) had seven kills on a .455 hitting percentage.
First-year outside hitter Mia Silva and first-year right side Ella Boyer each had eight kills to pace Marietta. Senior defensive specialist Braya Elsea notched 13 digs.
The Generals face Southern Virginia later on Friday at 7:00 pm.
