LEXINGTON, Va. — Sophomore outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) registered 16 kills on a .406 hitting percentage to lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Southern Virginia on Friday in Holekamp Gym.
The Generals (6-1) jumped out to early leads in all three sets to claim the match. In the opening set, the Blue and White scored 12 of the first 17 points, highlighted by five kills from Heifner, to take the first, 25-15.
W&L won the first five points in the second and eight of the first 10, capped on a kill by senior right side
Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), en route to winning the set, 25-15. The Generals used a 10-5 spurt to start the third to run away from the Knights (5-1) and claim the set, 25-16.
The Blue and White hit .340 with 42 kills on 94 swings with 10 errors. SVU hit just .065 with 30 kills and 22 errors on 123 attempts.
Along with her 16 kills, Heifner also had seven digs. Allsteadt finished with 10 kills on a .588 hitting percentage and three blocks. Senior middle blocker
Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) recorded seven kills on a .538 hitting percentage with four blocks.

Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) tallied 31 assists and four digs. Junior defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) and senior outside hitter
Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) each had 15 digs. First-year setter
Allie Buchholz (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) added 13 digs.
Junior outside hitter Courtney Pinkston led the Knights with 11 kills, but she also had nine errors. Junior setter Elle Warnick contributed 25 assists.
The Generals finish competition at the W&L Invitational on Saturday, when they host 10th-ranked Berry at 1:30 pm.
