LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team was held under 30 kills for the first time this season in a 3-0 loss to 10th-ranked Berry on Saturday in Holekamp Gym in the final match of the W&L Invitational.
The Vikings (5-0) won the three sets, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16. The Generals (6-2) had 29 kills and 25 errors on 107 attempts for a .037 hitting percentage. Berry hit .333 with 43 kills and nine errors on 102 swings.
Sophomore outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) led the team with nine kills, while senior right side
Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) had eight kills. Following the contest, Heifner and Allsteadt each earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Senior outside hitter
Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) totaled a team-high 14 digs, while junior defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) notched 12 digs. Junior setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) tallied 20 assists and four digs.
Junior right side Molley Bergin had 14 kills to pace Berry. Junior outside hitter Peyton Breissinger contributed 11 kills. Junior setter Emily Rapach had 35 assists and three kills.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday, when they open ODAC play against Randolph at 6:30 pm in Holekamp Gym.
