LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) surpassed 1,000 career digs, and the Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated Randolph, 3-0, at Holekamp Gym in the ODAC opener for both teams on Wednesday.
The Generals (7-2, 1-0 ODAC) held the WildCats (4-4, 0-1 ODAC) to a -.008 hitting percentage in taking the match, 25-9, 25-19, 25-18. W&L hit .211 with 42 kills and 14 errors on 133 swings, while Randolph had 24 kills and 25 errors on 133 total attempts.
Gard led the Blue and White with a season-high 21 digs. She also had four assists. With her 21 digs, she now has 1,002 career digs in 59 matches played. Gard is the 16th player in program history to reach the 1,000 mark in digs.
Sophomore outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) led the team in kills with 13 and she also had 14 digs and three blocks. Senior outside hitter
Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) notched 13 digs and six kills.
Senior right side
Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) totaled 10 kills on a .350 hitting percentage. Junior setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) contributed 28 assists and nine digs, and first-year setter
Allie Buchholz (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) added 15 digs.
Junior outside hitter Logan Warren registered 10 kills to lead the WildCats. Sophomore libero Kenleigh Gunter recorded a match-high 23 digs.
The Generals return to action on Friday, when they play Catholic in a neutral-site contest at Mary Washington at 6:00 pm.
