FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee volleyball team cruised past Catholic, 3-0, on Friday to open up the Mary Washington Quad.
The Generals (8-2) recorded a team hitting percentage of .225 while limiting the Cardinals (2-7) to -.073 in posting set scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-11 in the win.
Despite dropping the first three points to open the match, the Generals rebounded quickly with a 10-3 run to go up by four points. The Cardinals scored on six of the next 11 points to pull back to within three points, before W&L closed out the set on a 10-4 stretch.
The Generals opened the second set by claiming the first four points and nine of the first 10 overall en route to a 25-15 set score, while the third set opened similarly with W&L ahead, 12-2, as the Generals led by no less than nine points for the remainder of the set to secure the match.
Senior outside hitter
Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn. / New Canaan) and first-year outside hitter
Avery Myers (New York, N.Y. / Poly Prep Country Day School) highlighted the W&L offense with eight kills and a .375 hitting percentage each. Sophomore outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) led the team in kills (9) and digs (15), while junior setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Westlake) posted 21 assists, five digs and two kills.
Catholic first-year outside hitter Courtney Pohl notched nine kills on a .120 hitting percentage to pace the Cardinals, while sophomore outside hitter Olivia Blondin logged seven kills.
The Generals will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Gettysburg at 12:00 pm and host Mary Washington at 4:00 pm.
