W&L Volleyball Defeats Bridgewater, 3-0

FERRUM, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team had three players total at least 10 kills in a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater in a neutral-site contest at Ferrum on Saturday.

Up 2-0 (25-19 and 25-18) heading into the third, the Generals (12-3, 4-0 ODAC) fell behind, 6-2, to the Eagles (4-6, 1-1 ODAC) early in the set. Trailing 11-8 later in the stanza, W&L won four straight points, capped on a combination block from senior middle blocker Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) and junior setter Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake), to assume a 12-11 advantage.

The Blue and White extended its lead to 19-13 in the third, but Bridgewater trimmed the deficit to 22-17, and then won six straight rallies to take a 23-22 edge. The teams exchanged points over the next four rallies with the Eagles in front, 25-24, after a kill by sophomore middle hitter Lauren Nofsinger.

Senior outside hitter Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) evened the set with a kill, and then a kill by sophomore outside hitter Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) gave the Generals a match-point opportunity, 26-25. W&L closed out the set, 27-25, and the match, 3-0, on another combo block from Blain and Webb.
