DANVILLE, Ky. – The third-ranked Washington and Lee men's soccer team scored five times in the first half, including three times within the first 10 minutes, to cruise to a 7-0 win over Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Weyimi Agbeyegbe (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) booted in a cross inside the six that was sent in by sophomore defender
Haden Biering (Denton, Texas/Ryan).
Senior midfielder
Connor Wharton (Littleton, Colo./Colorado Academy) and junior midfielder
Samuel Bass (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) then scored on a free kick each in the ninth and 28th minutes, respectively. Junior midfielder
John Peterson (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) added the team's fifth tally of the half in the 31st minute following a pass through the defense by Bass.
Sophomore midfielder
Grant McCarty (Dallas, Texas/Parish Episcopal) and junior defender
Tyler Smith (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes) scored W&L's second-half goals in the 68th and 74th minutes, respectively, to complete the scoring. Agbeyegbe assisted on McCarty's score and Wharton assisted on Smith's goal.
Agbeyegbe, Bass and Wharton each logged three points in the game on one goal and one assist, and they combined for eight total shots on the day. Peterson's goal marked his third consecutive game with at least one goal, as he has scored four goals in that span.
Senior goalkeeper
Michael Nyc (Kildeer, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) (5-0-1) and junior goalkeeper
Rye McMillen (Fairfax, Va./The Heights School) combined for the shutout, as Nyc earned the win and played the first half. McMillen covered the second half in net and made one save to preserve the shutout.
For the Colonels (4-3-1), first-year forward Kaden Bryan registered two of the team's four shots on offense. Senior goalkeeper Haydon Korfhage (4-3-1) took the loss after he allowed five goals, with two saves, in the first 30:38. Sophomore Jacob Camacho played the rest of the game in goal and made four saves but allowed two goals.
The Generals finished the game with a 24-4 shot advantage, including a 13-1 edge in shots on goal. The seven goals marked the most for the program since a 7-1 win over Emory & Henry on October 5, 2019, while the seven-goal victory was the largest margin of victory since an 8-0 win over E&H on October 3, 2018.
The Generals will return to the pitch on Friday when they host 16th-ranked Christopher Newport at 5:00 pm in their final non-conference game of the regular season.
