CARLISLE, Pa. — Senior goalkeeper
Sara Amil (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) tied a career-high with 10 saves to lead the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at Dickinson on Friday. With the shutout, Amil tied the program career record for shutouts with 14 in her 33rd game.
The Generals (4-0) scored the first goal of the contest six minutes into the second period. On a counterattack, junior forward
Tess Muneses (Howard County, Md./Glenelg) brought the ball into the offensive zone and then made a forwarding pass to senior forward
Grace Weise (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Agnes Irwin School) in the circle. Weise then quickly turned and fired the ball into the cage to give the Blue and White a 1-0 advantage. It marked Weise's fifth goal of the season.
Just over six minutes later, sophomore midfielder
Paige Mammorella (Louisville, Ky./Manual) intercepted a pass to ignite a Generals' attack. Junior forward
Freddie Tobeason (New York, N.Y./Groton School) eventually controlled possession on the right side and then dribbled through a pair of defenders into the center of the circle, shooting past the keeper on the right side for her fourth score of the year.
With the offense providing two goals in the first half, the W&L defense led by Amil held the Red Devils (1-4) scoreless for the full 60 minutes. Amil notched five saves in each half, while senior defender
Abby Hamilton (Oxford, Pa./Padua Academy (Del.)) also recorded a defensive save over the final 30 minutes. Amil is now tied with Ariyel Yavalar '19 for the most shutouts in program history with 14.
Junior Saige Stevens saw all 60 minutes of action for Dickinson, making seven saves. The Red Devils took 16 shots in the contest compared to 12 for the Blue and White. Dickinson also had 11 penalty corner opportunities, while W&L had four.
