No. 2 Generals Tally First Nine Goals in 17-5 Win at Roanoke

SALEM, Va. — The second-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team registered the first nine goals in the game on its way to a 17-5 victory at Roanoke on Wednesday.
 
The Generals (9-0, 6-0 ODAC) scored just 1:06 into the contest and never relinquished the lead. Sophomore midfielder Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) recorded the first goal off an assist from sophomore attacker Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton), and then first-year attacker Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) pushed the lead to 2-0 after another minute of play.
 
Lisovicz tallied her second goal of the game, and then senior attacker Landon Shelley (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) recorded a goal to give the Blue and White a 4-0 advantage with 20:53 left in the half.
 
A minute and a half later, junior attacker Katherine Faria (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Kit McNiff (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), and then McNiff pushed the margin to 6-0 with her own goal with 17:16 remaining in the period.
 
Lisovicz registered her third goal of the half following another minute of action, and then Faria notched her second with 15 minutes remaining in the stanza. Bishop then capped W&L's 9-0 spurt with her second goal with 13:25 left on the clock.
 
First-year attacker Tiernan Connor finally put the Maroons (4-2, 1-1 ODAC) on the board with a goal exactly one minute later, but McNiff answered with her second tally to extend the lead back to nine, 10-1, with 9:29 left in the half.
 
Over the final nine minutes of the period, Bishop added two more goals to stretch the Generals' lead to 12-1 at the break. In the second half, the Blue and White outscored Roanoke, 5-4, to earn the 12-goal win.
 
Bishop led the team with four goals, while Lisovicz, Faria and McNiff each registered three. McNiff also had one assist. Schwab and Shelley each totaled one goal and four assists.
 
Sophomore midfielder Christina Cavallo (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes' School) totaled two goals. Junior defender Caroline Hall (Henrico, Va./Collegiate School) led the team with four ground balls to go with two caused turnovers. First-year defender Allie Doyle (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) also had two caused turnovers.
 
First-year goalkeeper Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) saw 55:33 of action, allowing three goals with three saves. Junior Sam Sunar (Montville, N.J./Mountain Lakes) played the final 4:27, giving up two goals.
 
W&L led in shots, 24-12, and in ground balls, 18-13. Senior goalkeeper Carly Schoudel played the entire contest for the Maroons, allowing 17 goals with four saves.
 
The Generals will break for finals and return to action on Saturday, April 17 at home against Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 pm. The contest will be Senior Day for W&L.
