LEXINGTON, Va. — Senior attacker
Landon Shelley (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) broke the program's single-game assists record with seven in leading the second-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 30-1 victory against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at Watt Field.
Along with Shelley's record, the Generals (10-0, 7-0 ODAC) set the team record for goals in a game with 30 and the program record for margin of victory with the 29-goal spread.
In the contest, W&L outscored the Marlins (2-10, 2-4 ODAC), 21-0, in the opening half to cruise to the win. Senior midfielder
Kit McNiff (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) tallied half of the team's first eight goals just 8:43 into the game. Of those eight goals, Shelley totaled assists on three of them.
Over the next 10 minutes of play, the Blue and White extended the advantage to 15-0 with 10:37 left in the half. During the stretch, seven different players registered a goal and Shelley added two more assists.
Junior midfielder
McKenna Edmondson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) stretched the lead to 16-0 with 8:58 remaining in the period off Shelley's sixth assist of the contest, and then junior attacker
Maggie Frankel (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) scored a minute later to push the margin to 17-0.
With 5:58 left in the half, Shelley broke the program record for assists with her seventh on a goal from first-year midfielder
Julia Thomson (Larchmont, N.Y./Hackley School). Over the final five minutes of the period, W&L scored three more times, with Frankel registering two of the three.
Virginia Wesleyan notched the first goal of the second half, but the Generals finished the game on a 9-0 spurt to secure the 29-goal victory.
Shelley's seven assists broke the previous record of six, which was originally set in 1992 and had been done nine times previously, including twice by Shelley. She now has 125 assists in her career, which is just 11 off the program record of 136 set by Leslie Bogart '03. The seven points for Shelley in the game also tied a career high.
Frankel notched six goals with one assist, tying a career-best with seven points. McNiff finished with four goals, while junior attacker
Katherine Faria (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor), first-year attacker
Alex Petras (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and first-year midfielder
Ginny Taylor (Madison, N.J./Madison) each had three goals.
Edmonds and first-year attacker
Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) each registered two goals and one assist, and sophomore attacker
Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) had one goal and two assists. Sophomore midfielder
Christina Cavallo (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes' School) tallied two goals, and first-year midfielder
Walker McKnight (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) had two assists.
Sophomore midfielder

Liv Truesdell (New York, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart) totaled one goal each, and junior attacker
Janie Stillwell (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal) finished with one assist.
The Generals dominated in the draw circle, collecting 32 compared to just one for the Marlins. Taylor led the way in that category with six, while Cote added five.
All three of the W&L goalkeepers played in the contest. First-year
Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) started and played 19:23 and did not face a shot. First-year
Stefanie Chiguluri (Fairview, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) saw 21:15 of action, allowing one goal and junior
Sam Sunar (Montville, N.J./Mountain Lakes) played the final 19:22 of the contest.
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Moilanen started for VWU and allowed 26 goals with eight saves in 43:46. First-year Brittneyann Hoover played the final 16:14, giving up four goals.
The 30 goals in a game breaks the previous record of 28, which was set earlier this season against Guilford. The 29-goal spread against the Marlins also broke the record for largest margin of victory. The previous mark was 27 and had been achieved two times.
The victory extends the team's record-setting home win streak to 26 games, dating back to March 17, 2018.
The Generals play their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, when they host Bridgewater at 4:00 pm.
