No. 2 W&L Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Bridgewater, 29-0

LEXINGTON, Va. — The second-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team held a 47-2 advantage in shots and junior attacker Maggie Frankel (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) totaled five goals and one assist, as the Generals defeated Bridgewater, 29-0, at Watt Field on Wednesday.
 
The Blue and White (11-0, 8-0 ODAC) had 14 different players score a goal in the game and 17 players register a point. In the contest's first 10 minutes, W&L tallied nine goals, with junior attacker Katherine Faria (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) leading the way with two goals and an assist. During the same stretch, sophomore attacker Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) had one goal and three assists.
 
In the final 20 minutes of the half, senior attacker Landon Shelley (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) registered three assists, as the Generals added 10 more goals to take a 19-0 lead at halftime. Frankel dominated the second half for the Blue and White, scoring all five of her goals in the period, while adding an assist. Over the final 30 minutes, W&L recorded 10 additional goals to reach the final margin of 29-0.
 
Along with the 45-shot advantage, the Generals secured 23 draw controls compared to eight for the Eagles (3-7, 3-5 ODAC). Bridgewater committed 17 turnovers, while W&L only turned it over four times with all four coming after intermission. The Blue and White also led in ground balls, 21-8.
 
Frankel led the way with her six points, while two players had five points. Shelley finished with one goal and four assists, and first-year attacker Alex Petras (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) notched four goals and one assist. With her four assists, Shelley now has 38 on the year, which is the fifth-best single-season total in program history.
 
Schwab ended the game with one goal and three assists, and Faria had two goals and two assists. First-year attacker Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) tallied three goals, and senior midfielder Kit McNiff (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and junior attacker Janie Stillwell (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal) each had two goals and one assist.
 
Junior midfielder McKenna Edmondson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and sophomore midfielders Christina Cavallo (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes' School) and Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) all had two goals.
 
 Junior midfielder Liv Truesdell (New York, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart), sophomore midfielder Blake Cote (Bedford, N.Y./Westminster School) and first-year midfielder Ginny Taylor (Madison, N.J./Madison) each had one goal. Sophomore attacker Tati Monteleone (New York, N.Y./Hackley School) and first-year midfielders Walker McKnight (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) and Julia Thomson (Larchmont, N.Y./Hackley School) each had one assist.
 
Lisovicz grabbed a team-best six draw controls, while Taylor added five. Edmonds led the team with two caused turnovers and sophomore defender Caroline Wise (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) had a team-best three ground balls.
 
First-year Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) started in goal for W&L and made one save in 19:56. Junior Sam Sunar (Montville, N.J./Mountain Lakes) played the next 20 minutes, and first-year Stefanie Chiguluri (Fairview, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) finished the game. Senior goalkeeper Mikaela Brooks played the whole game for the Eagles and stopped 12 shots.
 
This is the 19th time in program history the Generals have shut out an opponent, most recently done in 2019. W&L also tied its program record for margin of victory, which it achieved in its last game against Virginia Wesleyan.
 
The victory extends the team's record-setting home win streak to 27 games, dating back to March 17, 2018.
 
The Generals have secured the top seed for the ODAC Tournament and will receive a bye to the semifinals, which will be played next Friday, April 30. W&L will host the winner of the quarterfinal between the No. 4 seed and the No. 5 seed, which will take place on Wednesday, April 28.
 
The final games in the conference regular season take place on Saturday, and after their conclusions, the ODAC will announce the seedings for the tournament.
