W&L Field Hockey Stymies Randolph-Macon, 3-0

ASHLAND, Va. — The Washington and Lee field hockey team held a 19-5 advantage in shots en route to a 3-0 victory at Randolph-Macon on Friday.

In the second period with 10:19 on the clock, the Generals (6-1, 6-1 ODAC) scored the first goal of the game. Off a penalty corner, junior forward Stella Noels (Cambridge, Mass./Middlesex School) inserted the ball to junior forward Grace Weise (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Agnes Irwin School) on the left side. Weise took one touch and then struck a shot that when off the goalkeeper and into the cage.

Neither team scored again until the fourth period, when W&L tallied its second goal. Once again off a penalty corner just 41 seconds into the stanza, Noels inserted the ball in on the left side to sophomore forward Tess Muneses (Howard County, Md./Glenelg). Muneses lifted a shot over the goalie and the ball sailed into the top right corner of the cage for her third goal of the season.

The final tally of the contest came with 8:12 remaining. Muneses fired a shot near the top of the circle that was saved. The ball ricocheted to the right and senior forward Grace Amaden (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) quickly sent the ball directly into the back of the cage for her team-leading eighth goal of the year.

Junior Sara Amil (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) recorded her third shutout of the year and the 10th of her career, while making one save. Her counterpart, junior Gatlin Snyder, registered eight saves.

Along with holding the 14-shot advantage in the game, the Blue and White also took 12 penalty corners compared to three for the Yellow Jackets (2-4, 2-4 ODAC). With her two assists on the evening, Noels moved into a tie for second on the team with three assists this year.

The Generals have their final game of the regular season on Tuesday at Bridgewater at 7:00 pm.
