WINCHESTER, Va. — First-year attacker
Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) tallied four goals and one assist to lead the third-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 16-8 victory at Shenandoah on Thursday.
The Generals (7-0, 4-0 ODAC) raced out to an early 5-1 lead in the first 15 minutes of the contest. Bishop scored two of the goals, while assisting on another. Senior midfielder
Kit McNiff (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) added a goal and an assist during the run.
The Hornets (2-5, 2-1 ODAC) answered by registering three of the next four scores to pull to within two, 6-4, with 8:31 left in the opening half. Neither team scored over the next five minutes, but in the final 3:45 of the period, W&L recorded three goals, including a tally by junior attacker
Katherine Faria (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) with four seconds on the clock, to assume a 9-4 advantage at intermission.
Shenandoah notched the first goal of the second half seven minutes into the period, but the Blue and White answered with a 6-1 spurt over a 15-minute stretch to grab a nine-goal lead (15-6) and effectively put the game away with 7:49 on the clock. The Hornets scored two of the final three goals of the contest, as the Generals earned the eight-goal victory.
Along with Bishop's five points, sophomore midfielder
Christina Cavallo (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes' School) totaled three goals and one assist. Faria notched three goals, and sophomore attacker
Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) registered one goal and two assists.
McNiff tallied two goals and one assist. Junior midfielder
McKenna Edmondson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) recorded two goals, and senior attacker
Landon Shelley (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) had one goal and one assist.
Sophomore midfielder
Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) led the team with four draw controls, while Shelley and senior defender
Catherine Arrix (Darien, Conn./Darien) each had a team-best three ground balls. Junior defender
Caroline Hall (Henrico, Va./Collegiate School) totaled a team-high three caused turnovers.
First-year
Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) played all 60 minutes at goalkeeper and made seven saves. First-year goalkeeper Ashley MacFarlane saw all 60 minutes of action for Shenandoah and stopped 10 shots.
Junior midfielder Alyson Bittinger led the Hornets with four goals, while first-year attacker Reilly Cisar added three goals.
W&L led in shots for the contest, 35-25, and grabbed 22 ground balls compared to 15 for Shenandoah. The Blue and White also had a 14-11 edge in draw controls.
The Generals return to action on Saturday, when they host Guilford at 12:30 pm.
