FERRUM, Va. — The fourth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team had four players total at least three goals in a 23-2 season-opening victory at Ferrum on Tuesday.
Senior attacker
Landon Shelley (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) scored three of the first four goals just five minutes into the contest, with junior attacker
Katherine Faria (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) registering the other tally. Sophomore attacker
Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) then either scored or assisted on each of the Generals' (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) next four goals.
Schwab scored a goal with 23:15 left in the half, and then assisted on back-to-back tallies to push the lead to 7-0 with 22:48 on the clock. She passed to Faria for a score and then made a feed to first-year midfielder
Ginny Taylor (Madison, N.J./Madison), who recorded her first collegiate goal. Schwab then registered a goal off an assist from Faria to push the lead to 8-0 just 7:42 into the stanza.
Faria extended the advantage to 9-0 off an assist from Shelley just two minutes later, and then Shelley assisted on a tally by sophomore midfielder
Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) with 18:07 left in the half. Junior midfielder
Liv Truesdell (New York, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart) sandwiched a pair of goals around another score from Taylor to stretch the lead to 13-0 with 10:39 on the clock.
Over the final 10 minutes of the half, the Blue and White added five more goals to its total to take a 18-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Generals outscored the Panthers (4-1, 0-1 ODAC), 5-2, to reach the final margin of 23-2. For the game, W&L held a 41-8 advantage in shots, a 21-5 lead in draw controls and a 19-12 edge in ground balls.
Shelley led all players with seven points, registering three goals and four assists. With the four assists, Shelley moved to third on the W&L career assists list. She now has 95 over her four seasons. Kelsi Robinson '09 is second all-time with 101.
Schwab ended the game with three goals and three assists, while Faria had three goals and one helper. Taylor led all players with four goals on four shots. Junior attacker
Maggie Frankel (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) and Truesdell each had two goals.

McKight recorded a game-high five draw controls, while sophomore midfielder
Blake Cote (Bedford, N.Y./Westminster School) had three draw controls and two ground balls.
Junior goalkeeper
Sam Sunar (Montville, N.J./Mountain Lakes) started for the Blue and White and made one save without allowing a goal in 19:23. First-year
Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) played the final 10:37 of the opening half and did not face a shot.
First-year
Stefanie Chiguluri (Fairview, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) saw the first 18:02 of the second half at goalkeeper, giving up one goal with two saves, and junior
Nyla Gavia (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) finished the game, totaling 11:58 of action and allowing one goal.
First-year goalkeeper Faith Chubbuck started for Ferrum and made five saves, while allowing 18 goals in 30 minutes. Sophomore Harley Steger finished the game for the Panthers, giving up five goals and making three saves.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they play at Christopher Newport at 3:00 pm.
