HARRISONBURG, Va. – Senior forward
Sydney von Rosenberg (Boerne, Texas / Boerne-Samuel V. Champion) scored two goals and assisted on three others to lead the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 9-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite in ODAC women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.
The Generals scored four times in the opening half and Rosenberg helped get things started just 2:33 into the game when she fed sophomore forward
Ava Boussy (Finksburg, Md. / Westminster), who deposited the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead.
W&L (3-0, 3-0 ODAC) added to its lead in the seventh minute when Boussy assisted on a goal by senior midfielder
Erin Hoeh (Chesterland, Ohio / West Geauga). Hoeh scored again in the 19th minute off of a second assist from von Rosenberg for a 3-0 lead. Von Rosenberg then capped the first-half scoring with an unassisted goal at the 31:06 mark.
Boussy notched her second goal of the game for a 5-0 lead in the 51st minute and the Generals kept the pressure on, scoring four more times over the final 27 minutes of action. Among them was another goal for von Rosenberg, who also assisted on a score by senior midfielder
Elle Prillaman (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry). Sophomore defender
Annie Martin (Martinsburg, W.Va. / Martinsburg) and junior forward
Emily Leding (Little Rock, Ark. / Pulaski Academy) also tacked on second-half tallies for the final margin.
Washington and Lee held a 36-3 advantage on shots in the contest, also holding a 7-1 edge on corner kicks. The Generals, who entered the contest tied for the NCAA Division III lead in goals per game (6.0), have now scored 21 goals in their first three games this season, besting the 1998 team's total of 20 for the most goals through three games in program history.
Von Rosenberg led the way with a career-best seven points on her two goals and a career-high three assists. Boussy totaled career-highs for goals and points (5) with her two-goal, one-assist effort. Hoeh scored a pair of goals, also tying a career-best total.
Junior
Grace Coombs (Boca Raton, Fla. / Saint Andrews School) earned the win in goal after playing the first 48:35 without facing a shot. Junior
Jasmine Furin (Charlottesville, Va. / St. Anne's-Belfield School) played the next 21:55 in goal without facing a shot and first-year
Sydney Smith (Damascus, Md. / Damascus) played the final 19:30, making one save to preserve the clean sheet.
First-year Anna Filipkowski played all 90 minutes in goal for the Royals (0-2, 0-2 ODAC), posting eight saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Southern Virginia for a 3:30 pm contest.
