Parks & Amaden Lift Generals to 6-0 Victory over Ferrum

LEXINGTON, Va. — Sophomore forward Alexis Parks (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) and senior forward Grace Amaden (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) each scored two goals to lead the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over Ferrum on Tuesday at the W&L Turf Field.

Amaden scored the game-winning goal 11:30 into the opening period off a pass from sophomore forward Tess Muneses (Howard County, Md./Glenelg). Dribbling the ball in on the right side, Muneses fired a pass across the circle, and Amaden quickly redirected it into the right corner of the cage for the 1-0 lead.

Parks gave the Generals (3-1, 3-1 ODAC) a 2-0 advantage with 5:40 left in the half, when she corralled a deflection in the center of the circle and struck the ball into the right side of the goal.

The Blue and White took the 2-0 lead into halftime, and then Amaden stretched the margin to 3-0 six minutes into the third. Sophomore forward Peyton Tysinger (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore forward Kailey Fitzgerald (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Visitation) just 43 seconds after Amaden's tally.

Parks added her second goal of the contest with 26 seconds left in the period on a centering pass from Muneses. The final goal of the game came with 9:23 left on the clock. Fitzgerald dribbled the ball in from the right end line and then flicked a shot inside the right post for her second goal of the season.

With her two goals, Amaden now has a team-best six on the season. Parks has four and Tysinger has five. W&L held a 44-0 advantage in shots and led 22-0 in penalty corners.

The Panthers' (0-5, 0-5 ODAC) senior goalkeeper Mia Holmes stopped 21 shots in 52:54 to keep the game from getting further out of hand. First-year Teagan Baker played the last 7:06 and made two saves.

Junior Sara Amil (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) saw the first 45 minutes of action in goal for the Blue and White and did not face a shot. First-year Abby Long (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill) played the entirety of the fourth quarter.

The Generals return to action on Friday, when they play at Roanoke at 7:00 pm.
