LEXINGTON, Va. — Senior forward
Grace Amaden (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) registered her first collegiate hat trick to propel the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 9-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Friday at the W&L Turf Field.
Sophomore forward
Freddie Tobeason (New York, N.Y./Groton School) notched the game-winning goal just 7:35 into the opening period. Amaden then pushed the lead to 2-0 with four seconds left in the stanza with a tally off a cross-circle pass from Tobeason.
Just 44 seconds into the second, first-year forward
Allison Pitts (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) perfectly placed the ball between the Marlins' (1-1, 1-1 ODAC) goalkeeper's legs for her first collegiate score.
Sophomore forward
Peyton Tysinger (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) recorded the team's fourth goal with 57 seconds left in the half off a touch pass from sophomore midfielder
Sarah Allen (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run). Amaden then registered the first two goals of the second half, each coming off rebounds, to extend the advantage to 6-0 with 11:31 left in the fourth.
Sophomore forward
Kailey Fitzgerald (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Visitation) recorded her first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore forward
Alexis Parks (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) with 5:36 remaining on the clock, and then the final two tallies of the game came off the sticks of Tysinger and Parks.
Amaden took eight shots to notch her three goals. Tysinger finished with two goals, and Parks and Tobeason each had one goal and one assist.
The Blue and White led in shots, 41-3, and in penalty corners, 18-1. Junior goalkeeper
Sara Amil (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) stopped one shot to earn her second consecutive shutout. It marked the ninth of her career, which moved her into a tie for third on the W&L career list. Tara Rubenstein '07 finished her four years with nine.
Junior Maura Bridges played the full 60 minutes for Virginia Wesleyan, making a career-best 21 saves.
The Generals return to action on Tuesday, when they play at Lynchburg at 7:00 pm.
