W&L Men's Basketball Stymied by Lynchburg, 82-69

LEXINGTON, Va. — Junior guard Cameron Savage tallied a game-high 30 points to lead Lynchburg to an 82-69 victory over the Washington and Lee men's basketball team on Wednesday at Holekamp Gym.

The Generals (2-4, 0-1 ODAC) trailed, 51-43, with 16:06 remaining in the second half, but back-to-back three pointers by first-year guard Thomas Feigin (New York, N.Y./Trevor Day School) and senior forward Gus Wise (Winchester, Va./John Handley) trimmed the deficit to two (51-49) with 15 minutes left in the game.

The margin was still two, 57-55, with 12:27 on the clock, but a triple by Savage ignited an 11-0 run to extend the Hornets' (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) advantage to 13, 68-55, with 7:52 left in the contest. The Blue and White never trimmed the deficit below nine points the rest of the way as Lynchburg earned the 13-point victory.

The Generals shot 36.9 percent (24-of-65) from the floor, 20.7 percent (6-of-29) from beyond the arc and 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the foul line. The Hornets were 31-of-74 (41.9 percent) from the field, 6-of-21 (28.6 percent) from long range and 14-of-17 (82.4 percent) from the free throw line.

W&L blocked a season-high nine shots led by three from sophomore guard Drew Harrell (Collingswood, N.J./Paul VI). The Blue and White turned the ball over 18 times compared to just six for Lynchburg.

Sophomore forward Jack d'Entremont (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) led the Generals with 17 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Robert DiSibio (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) and Wise each tallied 12 points. Wise also grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double.

Savage made 12-of-18 shots from the field for his 30 points. Senior guard Tharon Suggs and senior guard Israel Lockamy each had 15 points.

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they host Randolph at 2:00 pm.
