ASHLAND, Va. – A pair of first-half goals from senior midfielder
Erin Hoeh (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga) propelled the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 3-0 win at Randolph-Macon to close the regular season on Saturday.
Hoeh scored the Generals' (12-2-2, 7-1-2 ODAC) first goal in the 17th minute after she made a long run up from mid-field with the ball. Senior defender
Chloe Rapier (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) passed up to Hoeh at midfield, as Hoeh proceeded to dribble to the edge of the 18, where she fired with her right foot and scored inside the left post.
Sophomore midfielder
Emma Mansfield (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) tallied the next goal just under 90 seconds later. Following a throw-in, sophomore defender
Cameron Grainger (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) found Mansfield in space from about 30 yards out. Mansfield shot with her left foot and beat the keeper to the top-left corner of the frame.
Hoeh closed the scoring in the 26th minute, as she faked out a defender at the top of the box, moved to her left, and scored with her left foot inside the right post.
Hoeh finished the contest with 10 shots and put three attempts on goal, as her two goals were her sixth and seventh of the season. Mansfield took three shots and scored her third goal of the season, while Grainger's assist on Mansfield's score was her third this season. Junior
Grace Wielechowski (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) had a strong offensive game as well, totaling six shot attempts.
Senior goalkeeper
Grace Coombs (Boca Raton, Fla./Saint Andrews School) (11-2-2) earned the win after making four saves across her 90 minutes in frame.
Randolph-Macon (8-9, 5-5 ODAC) junior forward Leah Conrad paced the Yellow Jackets' offense with five shots and two on goal, as she came off the bench. Sophomore goalkeeper Abby Cook (7-6) took the loss after she allowed the three first-half goals and made four saves. Sophomore Zoe Cook played the second half and made two saves.
W&L outshot Randolph-Macon, 29-9, in the game and 21-2 in the first half. Corner kicks favored the Generals, 7-0.
The Generals have clinched a Top 4 seed for the upcoming ODAC Tournament, which means they will host a quarterfinal on Tuesday as either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed. The opponent and time of the game are yet to be determined.
