ATLANTA, Ga. — Senior middle blocker
Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) registered 15 kills on a .583 hitting percentage to go with eight blocks to lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Hendrix on Friday at the Emory National Invitational.
The Generals (23-6) fell behind in the match by losing the opening set, 25-23. In the second, the score was tied, 11-11, and then a kill by senior right side
Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) started a 9-1 run to give W&L a 20-12 lead en route to taking the set, 25-14.
The Blue and White were up 8-7 in the third, and this time used a 6-2 spurt, capped with back-to-back kills by Blain, to stretch the margin to 14-9. The advantage remained at least four points the rest of the frame, as W&L went up 2-1 with a 25-18 victory in the set. The Generals used a 7-0 run midway through the fourth to assume control of the set and then hung on for a 25-23 win.
Along with Blain's match-high 15 kills, sophomore outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) totaled 13 kills, 13 digs and five blocks, while Allsteadt finished with 11 kills and five digs.
Junior outside hitter
Maggie McSwain (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) notched seven kills, three aces and two blocks. Junior defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) recorded a team-high 21 digs.
Junior setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 46 assists and five digs. With the 46 assists, Webb pushed her career total to 1,990. It is the sixth-best total in program history and she is looking to become just the sixth player in team history to notch 2,000 career assists with 10 more.
Senior right side Sadie Walker led the Warriors (12-11) with 11 kills, and sophomore outside hitter Camryn Presley added nine kills and 10 digs.
The Generals close out the regular season on Saturday, playing Berry at 10:30 am at the Emory National Invitational.
