RADNOR, Pa. – The Washington and Lee volleyball team had three players total at least 10 kills in a 3-0 victory at Cabrini on Saturday.
The Generals (21-5) won the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-19. In the third, the Cavaliers held an 18-13 advantage. A kill by sophomore outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) ignited a 7-1 spurt, as W&L took a 20-19 advantage.
The teams were tied, 22-22, later in the set, but a kill by senior outside hitter
Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) and an ace by first-year setter
Allie Buchholz (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) pushed the Blue and White in front, 24-22. Cabrini fought off both match points with kills by senior middle hitter Hannah Dalton. The Generals secured the match, 26-24, after a kill by Sokolow and an attack error by Dalton.
Sokolow and Heifner led the team with 12 kills and six digs each. Senior right side
Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) tallied 10 kills and three digs.
Junior defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) totaled 20 digs and three assists. Junior setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 35 assists, 10 digs and two blocks.
Dalton led the Cavaliers with 19 kills. Senior defensive specialist Gina Custer finished with 20 digs and four assists.
The Generals next compete at Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
