Generals Use Balanced Attack to Beat Cavaliers, 3-0

RADNOR, Pa. – The Washington and Lee volleyball team had three players total at least 10 kills in a 3-0 victory at Cabrini on Saturday.

The Generals (21-5) won the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-19. In the third, the Cavaliers held an 18-13 advantage. A kill by sophomore outside hitter Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) ignited a 7-1 spurt, as W&L took a 20-19 advantage.

The teams were tied, 22-22, later in the set, but a kill by senior outside hitter Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) and an ace by first-year setter Allie Buchholz (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) pushed the Blue and White in front, 24-22. Cabrini fought off both match points with kills by senior middle hitter Hannah Dalton. The Generals secured the match, 26-24, after a kill by Sokolow and an attack error by Dalton.

Sokolow and Heifner led the team with 12 kills and six digs each. Senior right side Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) tallied 10 kills and three digs.

Junior defensive specialist Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) totaled 20 digs and three assists. Junior setter Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 35 assists, 10 digs and two blocks.

Dalton led the Cavaliers with 19 kills. Senior defensive specialist Gina Custer finished with 20 digs and four assists.
