LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team had four players register at least six kills in a 3-0 victory over Shenandoah on Saturday at Holekamp Gym.
The Hornets (4-11, 1-5 ODAC) pushed the Generals (14-3, 6-0 ODAC) in the opening set, but W&L pulled away late for a 25-19 win. The Blue and White carried the momentum over to the final two sets, winning 25-14 and 25-17.
The Generals tallied 38 kills with 12 errors on 110 total attempts for a .236 hitting percentage. Shenandoah hit just .070 with 31 kills and 23 errors on 115 swings.
Senior outside hitter
Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) totaled a team-high 10 kills and added six digs and three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) recorded nine kills and 14 digs.
Junior outside hitter
Maggie McSwain (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) notched a team-high seven blocks to go with four kills. Junior setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) contributed 30 assists, three blocks and two kills.
Junior defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) tallied 13 digs, while senior middle blocker
Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) had six kills and six blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Jillian Warter led the Hornets with nine kills and 10 digs. Junior outside hitter Kate Poppo added seven kills and 14 digs.
The Generals face Christopher Newport at 5:00 pm on Saturday.
