LEXINGTON, Va. — Christopher Newport rallied from one set down to defeat the Washington and Lee volleyball team, 3-1, on Saturday at Holekamp Gym.
The teams split the first two sets with the Generals (14-4) taking the first, 25-20, and the Captains (15-3) claiming the second, 25-16. CNU cruised in the third, 25-15, and then barely outplayed W&L in the fourth, 25-21, to take the match.
Christopher Newport used an aggressive serve to keep the Generals out of system for long periods of the match. The Captains totaled 12 aces compared to just three for W&L. CNU also committed 15 service errors to the Blue and White's five.
The Captains registered a .208 hitting percentage with 53 errors and 22 kills on 149 swings, while the Generals hit just .104 with 36 kills and 23 errors on 125 attempts.

Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) led W&L with nine kills. Senior outside hitter
Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) notched seven kills and 11 digs. Junior defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) totaled a match-high 21 digs.
With her dig total, Gard pushed her career total to 1,144, which moves her to 10th on the program's career list. M.A. Boles '14 is ninth all-time with 1,412 digs.
Junior setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) notched 25 assists and six digs. Senior middle blocker
Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) tallied six blocks and four kills.
Junior setter Sammy Carroll was all over the court for CNU, recording 40 assists, six kills, six digs, four blocks and two aces. Senior outside hitter Maddie Carter had a match-high 16 kills on a .293 hitting percentage.
The Generals return to action next Saturday when they play Ursinus and top-ranked Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
