RALEIGH, N.C. — Sophomore forward
Allison Pitts (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) tallied her first collegiate hat trick to propel the 14th-ranked Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 10-0 victory at Meredith on Thursday.
The Generals (11-0) recorded the first goal of the contest 3:20 after the opening whistle. Junior forward
Peyton Tysinger (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) notched the goal with a shot from the center of the circle. A little over three minutes later, Pitts extended the lead to 2-0, when she stuffed the ball inside the left post.
Junior forward
Freddie Tobeason (New York, N.Y./Groton School) stretched the lead to 3-0 just 24 seconds later, as she fired a shot across the circle from the left side into the right corner of the cage. Pitts added her second goal of the game with 7:27 left in the first off an assist from sophomore midfielder
Emma Gatrell (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School).
Coming off a penalty corner, Gatrell passed the ball from the right side to Pitts in the center of the circle. She quickly redirected the ball into the goal. Pitts secured her third goal of the first quarter with 4:07 left in the period.
Sophomore midfielder
Ally Hoffmann (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) had the ball on the left side and sent a bouncing shot toward the right post. Pitts was there waiting and deflected the ball into the cage. Gatrell capped the first-period scoring (6-0), registering a goal with 2:16 left in the stanza.
The Generals added one goal in the second with 15 seconds remaining in the period, as first-year midfielder
Jenna Bernstein (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) found junior forward
Alexis Parks (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) for her third goal of the season.
Carrying a 7-0 lead into the second half, W&L notched one goal in the third from first-year forward
Kate Ruffin (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy), and added two more goals in the fourth to reach the final margin. Scoring for the Blue and White in the fourth were Parks with her second of the contest and first-year forward
Maddy Duggleby (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius). First-year midifelder
Louise Strawn (
Gloucester, Va./
